How to Prepare for a Professional Portrait Session

Choosing the right outfit, planning your timing, and knowing what to expect can make all the difference. A simple guide to helping you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself in front of the camera.

How to Prepare for a Professional Portrait Session

A strong portrait session starts before the camera comes out. Choose clothes you already love — textures and mid-tones photograph beautifully, and avoid loud logos that pull focus from your face. One polished look is enough; a second option helps if you want variety.

Plan for soft light when you can. Early morning or late afternoon keeps skin tones gentle and backgrounds calm. If we shoot midday, we will find open shade and let the light wrap around you instead of fighting harsh sun. Share any timing constraints when you book so we can build a relaxed schedule.

Most important: you do not need to perform. We will start with easy movement, then settle into quieter frames. Bring water, leave the rest of the pressure at home, and trust that honest presence always reads better than a forced smile. The goal is simple — images that still feel like you years later.
